Famous Guitar Players Of The Seventies - Who's The Best?

Famous guitar players - Who's the greatest guitar hero?

The Seventies produced some of the most famous guitar players of all time. Being a fan of guitar-driven rock 'n' roll I would like to know who is your guitar hero from this decade.

Need some names to think of? Some of the best known and greatest guitar players from the Seventies are:

  • Duane Allman (Allman Brothers)
  • Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)
  • Ace Frehley (KISS)
  • Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top)
  • David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
  • Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
  • Brian May (Queen)
  • Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
  • Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls)
  • Angus Young (AC/DC)

Some guitar legends that are associated with the Sixties but were also highly active in the Seventies include Eric Clapton, George Harrison (The Beatles), Keith Richard (Rolling Stones), Carlos Santana and Pete Townshend (The Who). Feel free to mention one of these, too. Unfortunately, Jimi Hendrix died in 1970, so he can be hardly regarded as a Seventies guitar hero.

I was and still am quite intrigued by Ritchie Blackmore's style and form; from the way he dressed all in black to his showmanship with the guitar. All in all he had the total package of what I liked in a guitar player from great fingers to the dazzling show. Ritchie is among the best in my book.

Now tell me...
